Abdul Aziz Suraqah is originally from Georgia, USA. At the age of fourteen, in a small rural town outside of Atlanta, he embraced Islam. Abdul Aziz is writing this, so he will stop speaking in the third person now. :)

After moving to Atlanta in the mid-90s and studying Arabic and the Quran at the main mosque in the city (Masjid al-Farooq), I was blessed to travel overseas in pursuit of knowledge (and adventure), studying in Yemen at Dar al-Hadith al-Khayriyya, in Mauritania at the traditional Mahdara school of Umm al-Qura under the tutelage of Shaykh Muhammad Salim Ould ‘Addud, and later in Morocco as the first western student admitted into to the full time traditional Quran school in the remote village of Sidi Ghiyyath in the foothills of the upper Atlas Mountains.

Upon my return to the west, I continued my studies privately with teachers, and have been teaching Arabic and Islamic sciences consistently since 2001.

In 2005, while living and working in Scandinavia, I began translating and editing works in the Islamic sciences, with a particular focus on theology and spirituality.

In 2008 I began translating full time, having since completed over forty works (published and unpublished).

In 2016 Ibriz Academy was launched (now phased-out), which was an online platform featuring over 100 hours of content—teaching Shaykh Yusuf al-Nabahani’s Jawahir al-Bihar fi Fada’il al-Nabi al-Mukhtar (Gems of the Ocean from the Virtues of the Chosen). Shortly after launching that project, I moved back to the US after being away for nearly 15 years.

I currently live in Pennsylvania, where I serve as a full time imam and continue to translate and teach.
